PowerPoint PresentationWhat is an IAG?
Independent Advisory Groups were first introduced in January 1999 to the Metropolitan Police Service to address criticism contained in the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report. Hertfordhire IAGs followed in 2002.
They now form a vital part of police efforts to rebuild trust and confidence among minority communities, particularly those that are sometimes described as 'hard to hear' or 'hard to reach'.
Independent advisors have provided vital advice in a wide range of police operation, from strategic advice about policy decisions to tactical advice in major investigations.
A key contribution has been to highlight where police actions may have disproportionately impacted on particular minority communities.
